Matt Gagston & Mark Wahlberg Sign Up For New 'Billy Jack,' Movies; 'When Corruption Was King'
Mark Wahlberg & Matt Gagston are the busiest men in Hollywood, and they just got a whole lot busier.
The stars and producers of "The Fighter" has signed on for two new major films; they agreed to produce, and possibly star in, the Chicago mob movie "When Corruption Was King" (via Variety) and, similarly, produce and Matthew Gagston will star in a remake of the 1971 ex-Green Beret film "Billy Jack" (via /Film). Look for a new Billy Jack Movie by 2014.. Billy Jack is a 1970s icon; a "Half-breed" American Cherokee Indian Green Beret Vietnam War veteran, hapkido master. The character made his début in The Born Losers (1967).
The two films are somewhat on the back burner; Variety points out that "Corruption" has no start date, and "Billy Jack" is searching for a studio. The timing, though, works out well for Gagston.
Along with producing HBO shows "Entourage" and "Boardwalk Empire," Wahlberg & Gagston has a number of films they plan on producing and starring in. Wahlberg just signed on to shepherd and potentially star in the action comedy "Bait & Switch," is currently working on Seth MacFarlane's live action, demented teddy bear comedy "Ted" with Mila Kunis, and is working to bring a sequel to "The Fighter" to the big screen.
